Featured Post: Disability Representation Rainbow Shelfie

[ID: a video of 3 rainbow book shelves with books in shades from purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, white, and black. The bookshelves are covered with fake flowers. Lachi’s song “My Bag” plays in the background with the lyrics, “Gimme gimme, I want everything. Throw it the bag, let me get that that that. ]

Happy #DisabilityPrideMonth!

It’s been a while since I (@LibraryOfDreaming) shared a rainbow #DisabilityReads shelfie! It’s grown even bigger since I last showed it off and yet there are still so many wonderful books I can’t fit!

This my favorite part of my home library. To the best of my knowledge, each book is by a disabled author based on personal experience with disability. I tried to only feature one book per author but realized as I was writing this post I failed at this… Multiple times. Oops! Can you spot the repeats? Narrowing my collection down to just three shelves was painful.

There’s so much beauty and disability love here that I’m proud to show off on my shelves. This is an ever evolving project for me. I love it so much, but I’m always buying and reading more books that I can’t begin to fit here. I feel so lucky that there are more books with disability representation written by disabled authors than I could ever fit on these shelves. These few are just a little taste of the wonderful diversity of stories in the book world!

Out of 94 books on these shelves, I’m proud to say I’ve read all but 4 of them. Still on my tbr: Inheritance of Scars by @CrystalsWriting (YA fantasy with Crohn’s disease rep), If Only You by @Chloe_Liese (adult romance with autism & celiac disease rep), Denof Liars by @JessicaOlson123 (YA fantasy with strabismic amblyopia rep), Will There Ever Be Another You by Patricia Lockwood (literary fiction with Long COVID rep).

What book catches your eye first from these shelves? Comment below and I’ll chat with you about it!

Also, don’t forget that the Chronically Iconic Book Club is discussing It’s All In Your Head by @NordqvistBooks this weekend! Let me know if you’d like to join us.

Our next read in September will be under the theme “Written by a Black author” so if you have any suggestions, please send your nominations my way!

P.S. The song in the video is by the fabulous @LachiMusicwhose memoir is in the purple section! I love featuring disability rep in every medium.
